Music A.A. Degree

Program Description

To obtain the Associates Degree (AA) in Music, students participate in four semesters of music performance and music theory training. The AA in Music degree prepares students with a foundation that may be followed by advanced degrees in a variety of specialties including music education, music performance, commercial music/music industry, jazz studies, ethnomusicology, and other music-related fields. 

The pathway below represents an efficient and effective course taking sequence for this program.  Individual circumstances might require some changes to this pathway.  It is always recommended that you meet with an academic counselor to develop a personalized educational plan.

Program Learning Outcomes

  1. Compare musical styles by identifying musical differences of various forms and genres.

  2. Interpret and formulate fundamentals of music theory.

  3. Distinguish the social and cultural relevance of music by examining historical and cultural contributions.

  4. Demonstrate basic technical proficiency through performance of playing a musical instrument or lyrical singing.
