ESL Integrated Skills - Beginning Certificate of Competency

Program Description

This noncredit program is designed to prepare beginning English language learners with the fundamental speaking, listening, reading and writing skills of the English language.  This program will also prepare students with the necessary skills to be successful in the composition-based ESL (English as a second language) courses. 

The pathway below represents an efficient and effective course taking sequence for this program.  Individual circumstances might require some changes to this pathway.  It is always recommended that you meet with an academic counselor to develop a personalized educational plan.

Program Learning Outcomes

  1. Develop and demonstrate a progressive cumulation of skills in reading, listening, speaking and writing in the English language in various real-world situations that are necessary to advance to the composition-based ESL courses.

  2. Recognize and anticipate cultural bias through collaborative activities that foster English language acquisition.
